The Walker Police Department is proud to announce that after a team of assessors from the Michigan Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission visited the department, interviewed employees and residents, reviewed policies and procedures, and studied the inner workings of the department, Walker PD was recommended for - and has now achieved - an official accreditation status.
This voluntary process was finalized March 27, after years of work to ensure Walker Police Department maintains best practice standards related to professional excellence in law enforcement.
Accreditation results in greater accountability within the department, reduced risk and liability exposure, and increased transparency and advocacy for the community. Of the nearly 600 law enforcement agencies in Michigan, Walker PD is now one of only 54 agencies to successfully receive MACP accreditation status.
"Congratulations to our City of Walker Police Department on the official recognition as an accredited police department," said Mayor Gary Carey, Jr. "This is one of many consistent strategic thinking initiatives our department has taken on over the years that raises the bar on our service levels with the community. I would also point out this was/is a voluntary initiative that took a number of years to accomplish. Well done!"
Having completed the initial process, Walker PD will now take part in ongoing procedures to ensure they maintain these standards.
