Kids and Fire Safety
The Walker Fire Department is thrilled to resume school visits! We're grateful to our local districts for inviting us to talk with kids about fire safety. After the presentation, the students get to explore a fire engine up close, which includes a show and tell of fire equipment, and even a tour of the inside of the fire truck!
Family Fire Safety
If a fire were to break out in your home, would your kids know what to do? Where to go? Do your kids know how to open the windows in your home should they need to? If your family doesn't have one yet, make time to sit down together and create a fire escape plan. Make sure everyone knows two ways out of every room. Usually, this means a door and a window. Some media rooms, home offices, and even bedrooms don't have windows. These rooms can create a particular fire entrapment issue. Evaluate your home and establish a plan in those instances.
It's also a good idea to make sure your home has smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. Those should go on every floor as well as outside sleeping areas.
